Early recovery can feel unsettling. Swelling, tightness, heaviness, and firmness are common in the first few weeks after surgery.

This treatment is designed specifically for post-operative recovery. It is not a relaxation massage and it should never feel aggressive or painful.

How post-operative lymphatic drainage helps
After surgery, the lymphatic system is temporarily disrupted. Fluid builds faster than the body can clear it, which can prolong swelling and discomfort.
Manual lymphatic drainage uses very light, precise skin-stretch techniques to support fluid movement and reduce lymphatic congestion. Sessions are slow, gentle, and clinically focused.
Most people describe treatment as calming and relieving rather than massage-like.
Your first appointment
This first appointment allows us to understand how your body is responding to surgery and what level of ongoing support may be appropriate.
Do I need more than one session?
For most post-operative clients, lymphatic drainage works best when provided regularly during early recovery.
One session can help relieve pressure and discomfort, but swelling often returns as the body continues to heal. Repeated treatments support the lymphatic system as it adapts and reroutes following surgery, particularly while swelling is at its peak.
After your first appointment, we’ll discuss whether a short course of treatments would be appropriate.
Courses are offered at a reduced rate compared to single sessions, providing continuity of care and a cost saving during recovery. There is no obligation to commit in advance.

Many clients choose a short course during early recovery to maintain progress and reduce the risk of prolonged swelling or firmness.

Location and availability
I work from a calm, private treatment room in Cheltenham, designed specifically for post-operative care. The space is clinical, quiet, and set up to support comfort during recovery.
Free parking is available directly outside, and treatments are carried out on an electric medi-plinth treatment bed to allow safe positioning and support throughout your session.

Mobile appointments may also be available within the local area, depending on availability, your stage of recovery and clinical suitability.
